Maruca Design has been designing artful bags for 20 years after its owner made a simple tote to carry his beautiful upholstery samples to his customers. Since that time, Maruca’s aim has been to intentionally craft quality products in small runs and strives to maintain a corporate culture akin to cottage industries rooted in the principals of the Arts and Crafts Movement in America of the late 1800’s. The values of this movement emphasized traditional and decorative craftsmanship using simple art forms and were in stark contrast to the industrial manufacturing movement of its time. The result is an organic, intimate and exceptionally well-made work of art that moves from “heart to hand” focused on enriching the person who wears them as well as those who make them.

Maruca Designs was founded and is lead by Rex Maruca and the most frequently asked question he hears is “What does Maruca stand for?”  Starting out selling fabric for the upholstery industry, hauling loads of swatches… A friend-“Hark! Rex…why don’t you make a tote from those beautiful fabrics to carry your swatches, and one for me as well?”  Rex…”Hmmm…”  Hence Maruca Design was born.  Maruca Design, now 20 years later remains a small, intimate studio nestled in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado. Every bag still hand cut and sewn, kindly there at home.
