Dating from 900-1650 ADE, Petroglyphs, ("Petra" meaning "stone," "glyph" meaning to carve") can be found all over the world. These images represent humans or the "ancient ones" whose legacy of mysterious and beautiful carvings decorate cliff walls and boulders throughout the southwest. Messages in stone their beauty undiminished by time.
For over 25 years, Lesley Aine McKeown has been creating ethnically inspired art in her production and one-of-kind collections. Honed from German silver, etched bronze and copper, each piece is hand fabricated and antique finished to give the rich feel of a found artifact. Her one-of-a kind handmade jewelry is fashioned from sterling silver, high karat gold and designer cabochons. Her techniques include fabrication, hollow form, shell form, anticlastic and synclastic raising, etching, roller printing, sand casting and a variety of texture and coloration techniques. An abiding interest in Geology is at the core of many of Lesley's creations and the unique and unusual cabochons are a signature of her work.
Born in Kansas City not long after both her parents graduated from KC Art Institute, Lesley was exposed to art and design at an early age. Her father created studio art jewelry during the modern jewelry art movement of the 1960's. Her mother, a nationally recognized sculptor also creates jewelry. It was this nurturing environment that enabled her to recognize and eventually express these creative proclivities and develop the skills to be a successful professional artist.
